Right since Indian cricket team played it’s first official test match in 1932 under the captainship of C K Nayadu, it has consistently proved itself as an enigma of some sort. It has always been gifted with some extraordinary, gifted cricketers, with the likes of Indian spin quartet - Bishen Bedi, E.A.S. Prasanna, Bhagwat Chandrasekhar and Srinivas Venkataraghavan, spinner like Anil kumble, batsmen of the calliber of Sunil Gavaskar, Vishwanath, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid, All rounders Kapil dev, Ravi Shastri all included in the list. And despite the prescence of these many stalwarts The Indian national cricket team has managed to throw up extraordinarily mediocre performance every now and then.
It’s not that we have not entertained the crowd with one-off great performances and victories, but the consistently inconsistent performance of our team at every prima-vital occasion re-affirms our faith in the incapabilities of our great Cricket team. On paper our team has always been one of the best teams ever. If not the potential, then what might be the problem?
Well, as per my penitent observations, our stalwarts are very much aware of their star status and we as general public do not leave any stone unturned in affirming their beliefs. This leads to many ego-clashes, selfish gameplays and diverted attentions. We need one good captain to take care of these issues.
I feel someone like joan-of-arc, the fierce, galliant french lady warrior of the 15th century would do great justice to the post of Indian cricket teams captain. In the 15th century when English were riding high on success in many wars against france, this young, fierce girl led the french troops to many unprecedented victories. The french warriors had immense potential but they lacked confidence and they had many internal disputes going on between them owing to the ranks and positions offered by the honurable lordship. Joan-of-arc single handedly gave them hope, gave them a reason to fight for, and succeded in uniting the french forces in war against England. Most of the high ranking officers fought galliantly, only because they saw a fragile 19 year old fighting fiercely in the war, and it hurt there ego. Joan-of-arc was herself not a well taught soldier, but had the guts to fight and take on any kind of enemy.
Probably this is what we need. A captain who may not be a great cricketer, but a great, confident leader with immense fighting spirit. Did anyone just named Ganguly??
